飽死荷蘭豆 (bau sei hau laan dau). This one is hard to explain in one go. But it’s an old idiom that means to be very full (from eating). It’s not used very often nowadays, but I learned this phrase from my grandmother.
In Cantonese, 死 literally means death but is used to make a phrase a hyperbole. So 飽 means full, but with 死 as 飽死 it means extremely full. SO FULL YOU MIGHT DIE.
Pretty dramatic, I know. It never ceases to amuse me.
荷蘭豆 are actually snow peas. The phrase compares a full stomach to how the peas in the snow pea makes it look swollen.
